DALLAS- One of the Major US carriers, Southwest Airlines (WN), will expand its network with three routes targeting the peak holiday travel period of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year.
The airline will introduce direct flights connecting Oklahoma City to Los Angeles, Omaha to San Diego, and Nashville to El Paso, Ishrion Aviation reported.

The Oklahoma City to Los Angeles route represents a strategic market entry for Southwest. Market analysis reveals the route’s potential with 139 passenger daily equivalent ways (PDEW) in the year ending September 2024, priced at an average round trip of $864.
The point of sale distribution shows 59% origin from Oklahoma City and 41% from Los Angeles, Enilria reported.
Market share data indicates competitive dynamics, with American Airlines dominating at 63%, Southwest holding 17%, and United Airlines capturing 11% of the market.
Specific airport breakdowns show American Airlines commanding 59% at Oklahoma City, Southwest at 22%, and United at 13%. Los Angeles airport statistics demonstrate American Airlines’ strong 70% market presence, with Southwest at 11% and United at 9%.
The Omaha to San Diego route, last served by Southwest in April 2020, presents another strategic expansion opportunity.
The route demonstrates 97 passenger daily equivalent ways in the year ending September 2024, with an average round trip price of $724. The point of sale mix shows 68% originating from Omaha and 32% from San Diego.
Market share analysis for this route reveals Southwest’s strong position, holding 56% overall market share, with United and American Airlines each capturing 15%.
Airport-specific breakdowns show Southwest’s dominance in Omaha at 58%, while in San Diego, the airline maintains a 51% market share alongside American Airlines at 19% and United at 14%.
