SINGAPORE- A British Airways (BA) crew member has been arrested and detained in Singapore following accusations of sexually assaulting a female colleague.

The incident allegedly occurred after staff members attended a social gathering between scheduled flights.

British Airways Crew Arrested

According to reports by The Sun, the accused crew member remains in custody while Singapore authorities investigate the allegations.

British Airways has dispatched management representatives to Singapore to address the situation and coordinate with local officials regarding the detained employee.

Two female British Airways staff members connected to the incident have reportedly returned to the United Kingdom. The allegations have caused significant distress among British Airways personnel, particularly as the accused individual has reportedly been employed by the airline for several years.

The case presents considerable challenges for airline management as it falls under Singapore’s legal jurisdiction. Singapore maintains strict penalties for sexual assault convictions, with guilty verdicts potentially resulting in up to 20 years imprisonment along with fines or corporal punishment.

This incident follows several other concerning situations involving British Airways staff during international layovers in recent months. In February, a British Airways pilot and steward faced suspension after colleagues reported alleged possession of illegal substances. The confrontation occurred at a popular Singapore cocktail establishment when fellow crew members observed suspected cocaine.

Additionally, an experienced British Airways pilot was previously accused of sexually assaulting a stewardess during off-duty hours in Singapore, with legal proceedings still ongoing in that case.

When approached for comment, British Airways stated: “This is a matter for the police and it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

The airline has faced similar disciplinary issues in the past. In 2023, a British Airways pilot was dismissed after boasting to colleagues about consuming cocaine off a topless woman shortly before he was scheduled to operate a flight from South Africa to the United Kingdom.

The incident resulted in a 24-hour flight delay as the airline scrambled to find a replacement pilot, costing British Airways approximately £100,000.

Incident with Crew

In January 2025, Police authorities opened an investigation into serious allegations concerning three Virgin Australia flight attendants who reportedly experienced theft and sexual assault during New Year’s Eve celebrations in Nadi, Fiji.

The incidents allegedly occurred after the crew members had visited nightclubs in the Martintar area of Nadi. According to reports, the victims are currently confined to their rooms at the airline’s designated accommodation facility while Fijian authorities pursue the investigation.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew has confirmed to the Fiji Sun newspaper that officials are actively investigating reports of theft alongside rape or sexual assault allegations stemming from the crew members’ night out in the popular tourist destination.

Virgin Australia’s Chief Operating Officer Stuart Aggs addressed the situation on January 1st, acknowledging the security breach’s severity. Aggs emphasized that the airline’s primary focus remains on supporting the affected staff members and ensuring their welfare during this difficult period.
