Starting today (February 3, 2025), the integration of ITA Airways (AZ) into the Lufthansa Group is officially underway, marking a significant milestone for both airlines. With immediate effects, ITA Airways passengers can enjoy the benefits of the Lufthansa Group’s frequent flyer programs.

Moreover, Miles & More members can now earn and redeem miles on all ITA Airways flights, while Volare members can earn and redeem points across Lufthansa Group airlines, including Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines.

In addition to frequent flyer program integration, passengers will benefit from smoother travel experiences. Starting March 30, 2025, ITA Airways will move its operations to Lufthansa Group’s terminals in Frankfurt (Terminal 1) and Munich (Terminal 2), improving transfer efficiency and reducing connection times for passengers.

At other hubs, including Rome-Fiumicino and Milan-Linate, ITA Airways will also share terminals with Lufthansa Group carriers.

Expanded Network, Code-Share Flights, and Lounge Access

From March 30, passengers will experience an expanded network with over 100 code-share routes between ITA Airways and Lufthansa Group airlines, offering more flexibility and travel options. ITA Airways passengers will gain access to over 250 destinations within the Lufthansa Group, while Lufthansa Group travelers can now easily book ITA Airways flights to domestic Italian destinations like Sicily and Sardinia.

ITA Airways passengers will also enjoy access to the Lufthansa Group’s extensive lounge network, with over 130 lounges worldwide, enhancing their travel experience. Lufthansa Group passengers will similarly benefit from lounge access to ITA Airways’ facilities.

Coordinated Schedules and Star Alliance Membership

The integration also brings coordinated flight schedules between Lufthansa Group hubs and ITA Airways’ main airports in Rome and Milan. This improves flexibility with better-connected flight options, reducing waiting times for passengers traveling to long-haul destinations.

In addition, ITA Airways will soon join the Star Alliance, the world’s largest airline network. This membership, expected in the first half of 2026, will provide ITA Airways passengers with access to more global destinations and benefits within the alliance. At the same time, ITA Airways is transitioning out of the SkyTeam alliance.

“Now that ITA Airways has become a member of our airline family, we want to push ahead with the merger quickly so that ITA and its passengers, as well as the guests of our other passenger airlines, can quickly benefit from the advantages of an expanded Lufthansa Group.”

Carsten Spohr, CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG.

The integration of ITA Airways marks the beginning of a new chapter in enhanced connectivity and travel options for the carrier.
