HONG KONG – Hong Kong’s flag carrier, Cathay Pacific Airways (CX), has discreetly lodged plans for flights to Sydney (SYD), Australia with its latest business class product, the Aria Suite, on its Boeing 777-300ER.
Sydney’s Kingsford Smith International Airport becomes the latest destination to receive CX’s flagship product after Beijing, London – Heathrow, Shanghai, Singapore, Taipei and Tokyo – Narita.

Cathay Pacific Sydney flights
Cathay Pacific unveiled its first aircraft fitted with the Aria Suite, B-KPO, in mid-October last year and plans on completing the retrofit of one plane per month.
So far, B-KPO, B-KPF and B-KQH are known to have undergone a revamp with a product that offers a fresh new product, including sliding doors and some added technology such as wireless charging and a larger entertainment screen. The airplanes also include a new premium economy cabin.
Cathay Pacific Airways will fly to Sydney using its Aria Suite-equipped Boeing 777-300ER starting from March 17, 2025.
CX101 will depart from Hong Kong at 11:55 pm local time and arrive into Sydney the next day at 12:00 noon, while the return leg departs SYD at 15:15 local and arrives into the airline’s HKG base at 21:30 local.
CX101 will operate on five days of the week, barring Tuesday and Thursday, with CX100 set to fly on all days apart from Wednesday and Friday. On the exception days, it will fly with its older generation of business class.

Beginning from March 30th, the Aria Suite will change to CX161, which departs Hong Kong at 21:20 and lands in Sydney the following morning at 09:35 – both local timings. After a 90-minute turnaround at Australia’s busiest airport, CX162 is scheduled to lift off for its return journey from Sydney at 11:05 and will arrive in Hong Kong the same evening at 17:30.
CX161 will operate with the Aria Suite on all days of the week except Thursday and Sunday, whereas CX162 is due for flying on days besides Friday and Monday. And as with CX101/CX100, the days excepting from the latest product will have 777-300ERs with the older business class.

Latest product on the Kangaroo Route
Approximately 300,000 passengers fly between London and Sydney every year, making it one of the world’s busiest international routes.
There is high competition on the routes operated by Middle Eastern carriers like Emirates, Etihad Airways, and Qatar Airways, offering connections, while Southeast Asians like Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, and Thai Airways are very attractive options too.
And barring perhaps the six best carriers, there is also the option of Air India, British Airways (via Singapore), Sri Lankan Airlines and Qantas (via Singapore) to name a few.
Cathay’s introduction of the Aria Suite product on the Sydney route comes just two months after its launch to London – Heathrow.
CX255, with the Aria Suite, departs HKG daily at 23:35 and arrives the following morning at 06:20 into LHR, while CX250 departs London at 17:50 and lands in Hong Kong at 14:35 the next afternoon.
This offers passengers with fantastic connectivity between Hong Kong and Sydney on Cathay’s latest product, while also strengthening HKG airport’s claim at restoring its pre-COVID passenger footfall.
