Qatar Airways Emergency Landing in Chennai
Qatar Airways (QR) Flight QR528, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner from Doha (DOH) to Chennai (MAA), made an emergency landing at Chennai Airport (MAA) on Monday, April 28, 2025.
The flight was preparing for its scheduled arrival when the cockpit crew detected the brake system failure roughly 20 minutes before the expected landing.
The captain promptly notified Air Traffic Control (ATC), triggering the implementation of emergency procedures throughout the airport facility, DT Next reported.
Airport authorities mobilised emergency response teams on the runway while cabin crew aboard the aircraft implemented safety procedures. Flight attendants ensured all passengers securely fastened their seatbelts and verified the functionality of emergency exits in preparation for the landing.
Despite the technical complications, the skilled pilot managed to safely land the aircraft at 2:30 AM, with all 314 passengers emerging unharmed from the incident.
The same aircraft was scheduled to return to Doha (DOH) at 4:20 AM with 317 passengers onboard. Qatar Airways (QR) engineering personnel immediately began troubleshooting operations after the emergency landing.
The technical team successfully identified and rectified the brake system fault, restoring full functionality before the return journey. Following comprehensive safety checks, airport authorities cleared the aircraft for departure.
The return flight eventually took off at 4:50 AM, experiencing only a 30-minute delay despite the earlier emergency. This quick turnaround demonstrated the airline’s efficient technical response capabilities in addressing critical malfunctions.
