United Airlines 6 New China Routes

The newly scheduled flights will be operated using Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft, providing increased connectivity between the United States and China, OMAAT Reported.

These routes, previously discontinued due to the pandemic, mark United’s effort to restore its pre-pandemic transpacific network.

United Airlines (UA) has officially added six new routes to its winter schedule for 2025-2026, reinforcing its presence in the Chinese market. The new routes include:

  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD) – Beijing (PEK): Daily service operated by Boeing 777-200ER
  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD) – Shanghai Pudong (PVG): Daily service operated by Boeing 787-8
  • Newark Liberty (EWR) – Beijing (PEK): Daily service operated by Boeing 777-200ER
  • Newark Liberty (EWR) – Shanghai Pudong (PVG): Daily service operated by Boeing 777-200ER
  • Newark Liberty (EWR) – Hong Kong (HKG): Daily service operated by Boeing 777-300ER
  • San Francisco (SFO) – Chengdu (TFU): Three flights per week operated by Boeing 787-9

These flights are now available for booking, although only the highest fare classes are currently listed. Availability is expected to open up in the coming weeks as lower fare classes become accessible.

The reintroduction of these routes is part of United Airlines’ strategy to restore its pre-pandemic transpacific flight operations.

These routes were previously active before travel restrictions and demand fluctuations led to their suspension.

United Airlines’ decision to bring back these connections indicates optimism about future demand between the US and China.

However, challenges such as travel restrictions, political considerations, and airspace limitations remain key factors that could affect operations.

Expansion Challenges

Operating flights to China continues to pose logistical and regulatory challenges:

  • Russian Airspace Restrictions: Flights between the US and China traditionally rely on Russian airspace for the shortest routing. Current restrictions may necessitate longer flight paths, increasing operational costs and flight duration.
  • Market Demand: While air travel demand between the US and China is gradually recovering, it remains uncertain whether these routes will achieve profitability.
  • Regulatory Approvals: Both US and Chinese aviation authorities must approve these routes, and political factors could influence the final schedules.

United Airlines is likely betting on improved bilateral relations and increased travel demand to sustain these routes.

However, whether all scheduled flights will operate as planned remains to be seen.

Bottom Line

United Airlines has scheduled six new routes to China and Hong Kong for the winter 2025-2026 season, signaling an aggressive expansion in the transpacific market.

These flights, resuming after a prolonged suspension, provide new travel options for passengers and strengthen United’s network in Asia.

However, uncertainties surrounding airspace access and demand trends mean that these plans could still change before the routes officially launch.
