HYDERABAD- A drunk woman passenger was booked at the Hyderabad RGI Airport police station in Shamshabad for allegedly causing a disturbance on an IndiGo Airlines (6E) flight on Sunday, December 29.
Disruptions caused by passengers not only delay schedules but also compromise the safety and comfort of others onboard.
IndiGo Drunk Woman Deboarded
In the recent incident on December 29, a woman passenger from Charminar boarded an Indigo flight to Mumbai and allegedly began arguing with the crew in a drunken state.
Security personnel intervened, off-loading the passenger and transferring her to the RGI Airport police.
The police registered a case against her under the Hyderabad City Police Act, and investigations are ongoing.
Handling disruptive passengers presents unique challenges for airlines. Although aviation security personnel are trained to address such incidents, each case demands immediate and decisive action, often requiring unscheduled landings or police involvement.
These actions incur significant costs and operational delays.
Legal frameworks, such as the Hyderabad City Police Act, allow authorities to penalize offenders, but enforcement varies across jurisdictions.
The introduction of no-fly lists in India is a deterrent for repeat offenders, but public awareness of the consequences remains limited.
Similar Incidents
This is not an isolated case. On December 4, another individual on a flight from Bengaluru to Hyderabad was arrested for causing a disturbance. In that instance, the air hostess filed a formal complaint, leading to police action against the disruptive passenger.
On November 17, 2023, an IndiGo passenger faced criminal charges after allegedly harassing a flight attendant during a Jaipur-Bengaluru flight. The accused, Randheer Singh, 33, from Sikar district in Rajasthan, repeatedly grabbed the air hostess’s hand despite warnings while seated in 27D.
The incident occurred on an IndiGo flight 6E556. Passengers witnessed Singh, who displayed signs of intoxication, persistently harassing the crew member. The captain designated Singh as an unruly passenger following multiple passenger reports of his disruptive behavior.
The cabin crew filed a formal complaint upon landing at Bengaluru airport. IndiGo representative Varun Kumar reported the incident to airport authorities on Saturday, leading to Singh’s arrest the following day. Police have registered a case under Section 354A of the Indian Penal Code, which addresses sexual harassment.
This incident follows a previous case from August 2023, where a SpiceJet passenger violated privacy laws by photographing and recording cabin crew members inappropriately during a Delhi-Mumbai flight.
Unruly behaviors, such as verbal confrontations, physical altercations, or refusal to follow crew instructions, jeopardize the safety and smooth functioning of flights.
Airlines, alongside authorities, are implementing stricter protocols to handle such cases, including no-fly lists and immediate legal actions.
