DUBAI- UAE’s flag carrier Emirates (EK) is set to enhance its Australian connectivity by introducing a third non-stop flight between Dubai (DXB) and Melbourne (MEL), commencing 30 March 2025.
The new service will utilize a fully retrofitted four-class Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, featuring the airline’s latest Premium Economy and Business class innovations.
Emirates Melbourne Flight
Currently operating two daily non-stop flights on Airbus A380s and one connecting flight via Singapore, Emirates will strategically restructure its Melbourne operations.
The airline will discontinue its Singapore-Melbourne route and replace it with a direct third flight, providing passengers with expanded travel flexibility.
The new flight, designated EK404/405, will operate with precise scheduling. Here’s the DXB-MEL flight schedule:
- The outbound flight EK404 will depart Dubai at 21:15hrs, arriving in Melbourne at 17:40hrs the following day.
- The return flight EK405 will leave Melbourne at 23:55hrs and reach Dubai at 07:00hrs the next morning.
This service expansion significantly improves passenger connectivity, offering travelers enhanced scheduling options and seamless access to Emirates’ extensive network. Passengers can now conveniently connect through Dubai to 27 European destinations, including key cities like London, Paris, and Frankfurt.
Refurbished with New Seats
Emirates introduces a meticulously configured Boeing 777 aircraft for its Melbourne route, featuring a comprehensive four-class cabin design. The aircraft comprises 8 First Class Suites, 40 Business Class seats, 24 Premium Economy seats, and 256 Economy Class seats, representing the airline’s latest product generation.
The Premium Economy cabin, recently honored as ‘Best in Class’ at the 2024 Business Traveller Asia-Pacific awards, offers premium passenger comfort. Cream leather seats feature 6-way adjustable headrests, measuring 19.5 inches wide with a 38-inch pitch and an 8-inch recline, ensuring optimal passenger relaxation and space.
Business Class delivers exceptional travel experiences with 20.7-inch-wide seats that convert to full-length flat beds, extending up to 78.6 inches. The four-abreast layout guarantees direct aisle access for every passenger. Innovative amenities include personal mini-bars, multifunctional dining/working tables, multiple device charging outlets, and expansive 23-inch HD personal screens.
A distinctive onboard feature includes a compact bar area enabling passengers to access mid-flight snacks and refreshments. This configuration reinforces Emirates’ commitment to superior passenger experience and comfort.
With this aircraft deployment, Emirates will provide 3,472 weekly Premium Economy seats across Melbourne and Sydney routes, enabling broader access to its premium travel offerings and enhanced amenities.
Regaining UAE-Australian Share
Emirates has significantly expanded its Australian operations, reinstating services to Perth and Adelaide while demonstrating a comprehensive commitment to the Australian market. The airline now operates 77 weekly services across five Australian gateways: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide.
The reinstated Perth service, effective from 1 December, provides nearly 12,000 weekly seats with enhanced global connectivity. The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft deployed on this route offers 354 seats across three cabins, including 8 First Class Suites, 42 Business Class seats, and 304 Economy Class seats.
Adelaide services, recommenced on 28 October, further strengthen Emirates’ Australian network, driving international visitation and economic engagement. The airline’s measured resumption of operations facilitates seamless connectivity, promoting tourism development and attracting business investment.
Codeshare with Qantas
Emirates’ Australian commitment extends beyond flight operations. The company employs hundreds of Australians globally and maintains a substantial national footprint in aviation and tourism businesses.
A $230 million investment in sponsorships across sports and arts, including the Australian Open, Collingwood Football Club, and Sydney Symphony Orchestra, underscores the airline’s deep-rooted engagement with Australian culture.
A landmark Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed on 6 November between the UAE and Australia represents a significant milestone in bilateral relations. Emirates is strategically positioned to support this economic collaboration, with the capability to transport over 2,350 tonnes of cargo weekly through its world-class multi-vertical cargo operations.
The airline’s 10-year codeshare partnership with Qantas (QF) further amplifies its network reach. This collaboration provides customers access to more than 120 codeshare destinations, including 60 points across Australia and New Zealand.
Over the past decade, Emirates and Qantas have jointly carried more than 15 million passengers across 543,000 flights, demonstrating the strength of their strategic alliance.
