The incident occurred on Wednesday at noon. Luckily no passengers were onboard the aircraft.
TUI Boeing 737 Gear Collapse
The incident occurred suddenly at Brussels Airport, Belgium after TUI Airways operated flight TB1012 from Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP), Spain. The airline said that they are investigating to find out the exact cause of this occurrence.
The airline has issued a statement and it stated:
The aircraft involved in the incident is a Boeing 737-700, registered as OO-JAR. Further, it is around 16 years old aircraft and is powered by CFM 56-7B engines.
The aircraft is configured with all-economy seats and has 148 of them.
All Boeing aircraft fleet operator, TUI Airways Group has a fleet of around 70 aircraft and operates flights to close to 100 destinations.
This comes weeks after a TUI flight attendant fell from a Boeing 737 aircraft at East Midlands Airport (EMA) in England. The incident occurred when the crew was preparing the aircraft for its flight to Lanzarote (ACE), Spain on December 16, 2024.
The accident happened after the aircraft’s mobile airstairs were removed, leaving no platform connected to the plane. Witnesses onboard reported that departure preparations were in progress, with all doors initially secured.
A flight attendant, however, reopened one of the main boarding doors, mistakenly believing the airstairs were still in place.
The Airport Ambulance Service responded quickly, deploying multiple emergency units, including an air ambulance. The injured crew member was taken to Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham for urgent treatment.
The AAIB has launched an investigation, with experts interviewing crew members and reviewing safety protocols.
Similar Incidents
Well, this is not just a single incident that has occurred. There are many such incidents that occur due to human error or technical problems while the aircraft is parked, towing, or taxing.
A Qatar Airways Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner suffered damage when its right main landing gear became entrapped at Hamad International Airport, causing the right engine to contact the ground during gate arrival.
The incident involved aircraft A7-BCV, a 9.5-year-old Dreamliner equipped with GEnX engines. The aircraft had completed flight QR663 from Colombo to Doha on October 25, 2024, and has remained grounded since the incident.
An airport engineer clarified that the incident occurred due to a structural failure of the ramp area rather than the landing gear entering a drain. The collapsing surface caused the main landing gear wheels to sink, leading to the engine ground contact.
Qatar Airways confirmed the incident with Aviation A2Z through an official statement:
British Airways Boeing 787 Incident
A British Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner incurred significant structural damage at Heathrow Airport when its nose landing gear collapsed during pre-flight maintenance for a Frankfurt cargo service on June 18, 2021.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) reveals maintenance personnel incorrectly positioned a critical locking pin, triggering an unexpected retraction of the nose landing gear. The aircraft’s forward fuselage impacted the ground, causing extensive damage to the lower front section.
The impact force activated passenger oxygen masks and dislodged overhead compartment doors. The incident inflicted deep fuselage scratches and partially detached several aircraft doors from their hinges. The co-pilot and a cargo crew member sustained minor injuries during the collapse.
Flight crew members reported post-incident chaos, with ground personnel impeding their ability to complete necessary safety procedures.
