LUCKNOW— Smoke was detected from the wheels of a Saudia Airlines (SV) aircraft after it landed at Lucknow Airport (LKO) on a flight from Jeddah (JED) on Sunday (June 15, 2025). The situation, linked to a minor hydraulic issue, was swiftly contained by the airport’s emergency team.
All passengers—primarily Hajj pilgrims—deboarded safely, and airport operations at LKO continued without disruption. The empty aircraft has since been cleared for a return flight.

Saudia Jeddah-Lucknow Flight Smoke
Shortly after landing in Lucknow from Jeddah, ground personnel noticed smoke emanating from the landing gear area of a Saudia (SV) aircraft.
The Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) team at Lucknow Airport (LKO) promptly responded and coordinated with the flight crew to manage the incident effectively.
Initial assessments indicated the smoke was caused by a minor hydraulic oil leak within the landing gear system.
Despite the visual concern, there was no fire or structural damage, and the aircraft was declared safe after inspection. The incident did not disrupt ongoing airport activities, highlighting the efficiency of emergency response coordination between Saudia staff and airport authorities.

No Injuries, Safe Deboarding for Hajj Pilgrims
The flight was carrying passengers returning from the Hajj, a period known for high inbound traffic from the Middle East.
All passengers disembarked safely without injury or distress. Medical and ground support teams were on standby, though no intervention was required.
Following standard protocol, the Saudia (SV) aircraft remained grounded for post-landing checks. Once cleared, the jet will be prepared for its next scheduled operation.

Similar Incidents
Similar aircraft smoke incidents have occurred recently across major international routes:
- On February 22, 2025, a Delta Air Lines (DL) flight operating DL43 from Los Angeles (LAX) to Sydney (SYD) returned to LAX after cabin crew reported smoke in the rear galley of an Airbus A350-900 (N514DN). The aircraft landed safely with 162 passengers and 15 crew onboard.
- On December 28, 2024, a United Airlines (UA) Boeing 757-300 from Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) diverted to Albuquerque (ABQ) due to cockpit smoke. Though no emergency was declared, the FAA initiated an investigation to identify the root cause.
These recent occurrences underline the critical importance of timely crew reporting and airport readiness to handle smoke or fire-related risks in commercial aviation.
