The aircraft commander issued safety directives through the intercom system, instructing passengers and crew members to secure their positions with seatbelts.

The pilot subsequently informed passengers about the left-side engine vibrations, necessitating an immediate return to Geraldton Airport.

The flight was operated by QantasLink Fokker 100, registered as VH-NHP. Further, it is 32.6 Years old and is powered by Rolls-Royce Tay 650 engines.

City of Greater Geraldton CEO Ross McKim confirmed the engine failure prompted the aircraft’s return. The plane touched down safely at 10:30 AM, with Geraldton Airport’s Emergency Plan fully activated and emergency services positioned on standby.

Passenger Loic Foison described the incident from inside the aircraft. “Everyone maintained their composure despite the tense situation,” Foison reported, acknowledging personal feelings of anxiety during the emergency procedure.

Qantas has rebooked affected passengers on evening flights to their intended destination.

Passenger Remarks

Loic Foison, a fly-in-fly-out worker with two years of experience, reveals persistent service disruptions in his regular Qantas flights. Foison, who utilizes Qantas services four times monthly, reports that 50% of his flights experience delays.

The frequent flyer expresses frustration with the airline’s compensation practices, citing minimal customer service response.

“After five minutes of negotiation, they provide one bottle of water,” Foison states, drawing a distinction between the commendable crew performance and what he perceives as inadequate corporate response.

Qantas’s official statement acknowledges a “minor technical issue” regarding the emergency landing incident. The company spokesperson emphasizes their pilots’ adherence to standard safety protocols, resulting in a secure landing.

The airline confirms its commitment to accommodate affected passengers on alternative flights. “We apologize for the inconvenience to customers and thank them for their understanding,” the Qantas representative states.
