The passenger, John Garcia Jr., encountered the issue on a flight from Los Angeles to San Antonio, with the confrontation escalating into a viral debate that has drawn widespread attention and criticism of the airline’s actions, Enilria.

John Garcia Jr., a 43-year-old father of four, boarded the Spirit Airlines (NK) flight wearing a hoodie with the phrase “FVCK HATE WORLD TOUR” prominently displayed.
Shortly after settling into his seat, a female flight attendant approached him to confirm his seating assignment. Upon returning, she demanded that he remove the hoodie due to its “obscene language.”
Spirit Airlines policy prohibits passengers from wearing “lewd, obscene, or offensive” clothing, yet Garcia contested the claim, asserting the hoodie conveyed a positive, anti-hate message.
According to the reports, Garcia’s account of the incident, in which he described his disbelief, saying, “It caught me totally by surprise… like, ‘Man, are you serious?’”
The situation intensified as a male flight attendant joined the exchange, reiterating the demand. Despite Garcia eventually complying by removing the hoodie, he was still escorted off the flight, leaving him stranded and needing to rebook his travel plans.
Spirit Airlines Issues a Statement
The incident gained widespread attention after fellow passenger Andrew Martin Hoel shared a video of the altercation online. Hoel criticized the airline, calling the flight attendant a “Karen” and expressing dismay that an anti-hate message was deemed offensive.
Online comments overwhelmingly supported Garcia, with many accusing Spirit Airlines of overreach and misinterpretation.
One commenter questioned the airline’s judgment, saying, “It literally says ‘anti-hate,’ and he got hated on.” Another added, “I hope he sues the s–t out of Spirit.”
