FLORIDA- Ed Wegel, the Founder and CEO of AVi8 Air Capital, is launching the new regional carrier in the United States, Zoom Airline.

Previously, he announced that the airline would be named Air Flo and launch flights with Airbus A220s, but now they have named it Zoom and launched a promo video on social media.

Ed Wegel, on his LinkedIn page, shared, “We are moving forward on our scheduled airline operation, and we will launch with the Embraer E190/195 E1, as we await Airbus A220s in a few years. “

“The E1 gives us a great range with an excellent engine type, the General Electric’s GE 34. We have decided to go with the name Zoom!”

“Zoom! will work closely with UrbanLink to connect passengers- and UrbanLink pilots- who will start with 500 hours- will build flight hours until they can move to Zoom’s 190s and eventually 220s- we will home grow our cockpit crews.”

Wegel earlier suggested that the emphasis will be on the “Air Florida narrowbody route network.”

Air Florida, a budget carrier based in Miami, initially concentrated on internal Florida routes before expanding to broader domestic and international services.

The airline operated various aircraft, including single-aisle Boeing planes and the McDonnell Douglas DC-10, until it ceased operations in the mid-1980s.

Wegel asserts that the plan for Zoom, previously Air Flo, has been developed by the aviation finance firm Avi8 Air Capital, a company he founded and currently heads.

Tailwinds Aviation, under the leadership of former Avi8 and AWAS executive Ray Sisson, is overseeing aircraft acquisition.

Wegel’s track record includes raising over $1 billion for aviation ventures and overseeing FAA certifications for two U.S. Part 135 airlines and multiple U.S. Part 121 carriers. Notably, he achieved the 2014 certification of Eastern Air Lines’ 737-800 fleet in a record-breaking eight months.

Recently, another brand founded by Ed Wegel, UrbanLink, ordered 20 Lilium jets.

UrbanLink Orders 20 Lilium Jets

This week, Lilium, the developer behind the pioneering all-electric vertical take-off and landing (“eVTOL”) jet and a leader in Regional Air Mobility (RAM), announced a strategic partnership with advanced air mobility (AAM) operator UrbanLink to operate Lilium Jets in South Florida.

Under this collaboration, UrbanLink will procure 20 Lilium Jets, with pre-delivery payments scheduled, marking it as the first airline in the U.S. fully committed to integrating eVTOL aircraft into its fleet.

Lilium’s collaboration with UrbanLink represents a significant advancement in accelerating the adoption of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) in South Florida.

UrbanLink’s entry into the region entails leveraging the network of Florida vertiports, a culmination of the concerted efforts of Lilium and its partners over the past five years.
