NEW YORK- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation after a Delta Air Lines (DL) subsidiary-operated Endeavor Air flight operated with a CRJ-900 plane wing struck the runway at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) during an attempted landing Sunday night (March 16, 2025).
Ground observers reported seeing sparks from the aircraft’s wing during the incident, CBS News reported.

Delta Plane Wing Touches LaGuardia Runway
Endeavor Air Flight 4814 carried 76 passengers when its pilot executed a go-around maneuver due to what the FAA described as an “unstable approach.” The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. as the aircraft attempted to land at the New York City airport.
The aircraft involved in the incident is Bombardier CRJ-900LR, registered as N185GJ. Further, it is a 16.8-year-old aircraft powered by GE CF34-8C5 turbofan engines.
Air traffic control communications documented the moment when controllers alerted the flight crew about the wing strike. “Somebody saw some sparks from one of your wings, do you guys feel anything?” the controller asked. The pilots responded, “We didn’t, but we’ll check it.”

Delta Air Lines, which owns Endeavor Air, issued a statement confirming the incident: “The Endeavor Air flight crew followed established procedures to safely enact a go-around at New York-LaGuardia. The aircraft landed safely and proceeded to its arrival gate. We apologize to our customers for the experience.”
The FAA described a go-around as a safe, routine maneuver where pilots and air traffic controllers maintain full command of the situation. The agency continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the wing strike.
Endeavor Air previously faced scrutiny after operating the Delta Connection flight that crashed and turned upside down during landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport in February.

Toronto Plane Crash
A Delta Air Lines flight from Minneapolis crashed, flipped over, and caught fire while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport Monday, marking the latest in a series of commercial aviation incidents since December.
Video footage shows the CRJ900 twin-jet aircraft’s rear landing gear collapsing upon touchdown. The right-wing sheared off in a fireball as the plane made hard contact with the runway surface. The aircraft briefly skidded on its belly before rolling completely over, sending smoke and powdery snow into the air.
All 80 occupants survived the crash, though 21 people required hospitalization for injuries. Delta confirmed Thursday morning that the final hospitalized passenger had been released from medical care.
By Tuesday afternoon, snowfall had almost completely camouflaged the aircraft wreckage against the ground. The left wing appeared crumpled while the right wing was entirely missing from the frozen fuselage. Removal operations concluded Wednesday evening according to Delta.
The flight, designated as Delta 4819 but operated by Delta subsidiary Endeavor Air, departed Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport and crashed at approximately 2:15 p.m. ET Monday at Toronto’s main airport, located primarily in Mississauga west of Toronto proper.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian expressed gratitude to emergency responders and airline staff in a statement: “The hearts of the entire global Delta family are with those affected by today’s incident at Toronto-Pearson International Airport.” In an internal memo, Bastian specifically praised “the professionalism of the Endeavor crew members who evacuated the aircraft.”
Deborah Flint, Toronto Pearson International Airport’s president and CEO, credited the “textbook response” of first responders for preventing loss of life.
Delta has offered $30,000 to each passenger involved in the incident. A Delta spokesperson confirmed to CNN that “this gesture has no strings attached and does not affect rights.” The total compensation could exceed $2.2 million if all 76 passengers accept the offer.
