Flydubai (FZ) is an Emirati low-cost carrier operating from the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The operator, owned by the Investment Corporation of Dubai, was founded in 2008 and has gone on to become one of the region’s most reputed airlines, serving over 100 destinations with its fleet of 86 aircraft.
Like Dubai’s flag carrier, Emirates (EK), Flydubai is reputed for its efficient service which provides connections to flyers in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. It is also one of the few low-cost brands in the world with lie-flat business-class cabins, thereby becoming a popular option among travelers seeking luxurious travel on a budget.

Flydubai Pilot Salary
FZ employs over 1,200 pilots to serve its wide list of destinations and here is a look at the salary and all the other benefits they are entitled to.
Flydubai Second Officer Salary
Flydubai second officers are the airline’s most junior category of pilots, on whom the carrier spends a few months and resources on developing into first officers. They are shadowed by the most experienced captains and provided with on-the-job training by the airline by signing a training bond running for five years, worth US$36,000 which is not on a pro-rata basis.
Their salary is more like a stipend offered by the airline as part of a learning program and stands at AED 22,465 per month or AED 269,580 annually (approx. US$6,100/US$73,200). This includes the basic component of the monetary package, as well as housing and transport allowance, but no provision for the rostered flying hours in a month.
Flydubai First Officer Salary
Flydubai first officers are generally second officers who have been promoted internally in the carrier or co-pilots employed from other airlines with the relevant qualifications. They assist the captains on the flight and as with any other airline around the world, FZ first officers are stand-in captains when the main commander is resting on a longer flight.
The first officers at the airline are paid a salary amounting to AED 35,250 per month or AED 423,000 annually (approx. US$9,600/US$115,200). The overall package includes the captain’s basic salary, housing allowance as well as transportation allowance, and first officers are paid a variable allowance depending on the number of hours they fly per month.
Flydubai expects this amount to be AED 11,410 each month (approx. US$3,100) on the basis of an average of 70 flying hours over the duration.

Flydubai Captain Salary
Flydubai captains are the senior-most members of the cockpit crew and are responsible for the management of the cabin crew as well on a sector. They are tasked with commanding the aircraft from point A to point B, while the senior captains with the Emirati carrier are also tasked with the development and training of second officers into first officers.
The captains at Flydubai receive a salary worth AED 48,485 per month or AED 581,820 yearly (approx. US$13,200/US$158,400). As with their junior colleagues, this package includes the basic component of the salary as well as additional allowances for housing and transportation, while provisions for flying hours are made separately.
FZ’s variable pay for captains averaging 70 flying hours per month is estimated at AED 16,310 per month (approx. US$4,440).

- PAID LEAVE – Flydubai pilots are entitled to a generous amount of paid leave each year. While second officers are allowed 36 days off in a 12-month span, first officers and captains are provided 42 days of time off, which is an industry-leading number by Arab standards.
- CONCESSIONAL TICKETS – Pilots as well as nominated friends and family members are entitled to concessional tickets on the Flydubai network, which includes codeshare partner Emirates. Subject to availability, this may also be in premium classes of travel.
- OPEN-ENDED CONTRACT – Though pilots are required to sign a contract at their time of employment, there is no expiry date as in some other low-cost carriers like Air Arabia, hence providing the individual with adequate job security.
- ANNUAL LEAVE TICKET – Pilots as well as their immediate family members are provided with one return ticket free of cost per year by Flydubai to fly to their home country if they are not originally from the United Arab Emirates.
- PILOT INCOME PROTECTION – In case of unforeseen redundancies by the airline, Flydubai pilots and their families are not distressed severely due to the income protection plan offered, which entitles personnel to lump-sum payments in case of contract termination.
