CHICAGO- United Airlines (UA) is set to operate its busiest schedule of the year from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) this fall, surpassing even its peak summer activity. The carrier plans to operate up to 592 daily flights in October, marking a new record in outbound service from its hometown hub.

In November, United will add 50 more flights from Chicago, increasing capacity to warm-weather destinations such as Phoenix (PHX), Austin (AUS), and Orlando (MCO). Notably, the airline will offer 10% more seats to Florida than it did during the same period last year.

United Extends Chicago Fall Flight

United Airlines is building on a record-breaking summer by significantly enhancing its fall network from Chicago O’Hare (ORD).

The expansion includes increased frequencies to high-demand U.S. cities and extended service to Latin America and the Caribbean, targeting leisure travelers heading for warmer climates.

New or extended service includes:

  • Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR): Extended weekend service in October
  • Cozumel, Mexico (CZM): Extended weekend service in November
  • Saint Martin (SXM): Extended weekend service in November
  • Guatemala City, Guatemala (GUA): Additional weekend service in October
  • Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ): Additional weekend service in October
  • San José del Cabo, Mexico (SJD): Additional weekend service in October

Domestically, United will boost flights to Phoenix (PHX), Austin (AUS), and Orlando (MCO)—three of the most in-demand warm-weather destinations in the U.S. The additions are in direct response to increased leisure travel demand during the fall months.

Passenger Experience Upgrades

United’s fall growth is driven by a modernized fleet that includes aircraft such as the Airbus A321neo and Boeing 737 MAX 9.

These planes offer seat-back entertainment at every seat, larger overhead bins, and improved fuel efficiency, enhancing both customer experience and operational sustainability.

The airline also introduced Starlink-powered in-flight Wi-Fi service from Chicago, giving travelers high-speed internet access gate-to-gate.

Additionally, United expanded its Polaris® lounge at ORD, now 50% larger, offering nearly 25,000 square feet of premium space for international travelers.

O’Hare at the Center of UA Long-Term Strategy

Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) continues to serve as a strategic hub for United’s domestic and international growth.

According to the airline, more mainline aircraft will operate from ORD this October than in the past two decades, solidifying the airport’s status as the best-connected in the country.

City officials have lauded the expansion. Mayor Brandon Johnson noted that United’s growth aligns with the city’s long-term O’Hare 21 capital plan.

Commissioner Michael J. McMurray of the Chicago Department of Aviation emphasized how the enhanced Latin American and Caribbean services reinforce ORD’s global reach.

United Airlines currently employs more than 18,000 people in the Chicagoland area and recently hired 2,000 additional local employees.

The company anticipates adding another 5,400 jobs by 2027, reflecting its commitment to local economic development.
