SpiceJet 737 MAX 8 Aircraft
SpiceJet’s (SG) decision to revive 10 grounded Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft highlights its focus on operational growth and market competitiveness.
The revived fleet will include four Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, boosting its current operations and enhancing its travel offerings. As of January 2025, the airline operates 28 planes, a number set to grow with these additions despite returning some aircraft to lessors.
Since October 2024, SpiceJet has expanded its fleet by adding 10 aircraft, three previously grounded and seven leased.
In the past three months, SpiceJet has introduced over 60 new flights, improving its network and providing travelers with more destinations and enhanced connectivity.
SpiceJet’s Chairman and Managing Director, Ajay Singh, emphasized the airline’s commitment to recovery and growth:
This commitment is evident in the airline’s focus on strengthening its fleet, resolving financial challenges, and improving passenger experience.
SpiceJet Financial
SpiceJet’s revival efforts coincide with its ongoing financial recovery. The airline’s shares fell 5.7% to ₹49.66 on the BSE Sensex amidst broader market declines. However, these developments have not deterred the airline’s focus on stability and growth.
Last month, SpiceJet entered an agreement with StandardAero Inc., a leading US-based engine repair company, to service its grounded Boeing 737 MAX fleet.
This partnership follows successful collaborations with CFM International, the LEAP-1B engine manufacturer, and a key lessor. Together, these efforts have already restored three Boeing 737 MAX planes to service.
In addition, SpiceJet has resolved disputes with major lessors and partners, including Export Development Canada and Engine Lease Finance Corporation.
Special Flights to Prayagraj
SpiceJet introduces dedicated flight services to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, marking its first-ever air connectivity to the religious gathering. The low-cost carrier will operate Boeing 737-800 aircraft from four major Indian cities – Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai.
The special flight services will operate between January 12 and February 28, 2025, aligning with the festival period. This initiative aims to facilitate travel for millions of pilgrims attending what stands as one of the world’s largest religious congregations.
The new routes represent SpiceJet’s strategic expansion into religious tourism, establishing direct air connectivity to Prayagraj Airport (IXD) in Uttar Pradesh specifically for the Maha Kumbh Mela. The airline’s decision responds to the anticipated surge in religious travel during this significant pilgrimage event.
