DOHA- Qatar Airways (QR) is reshaping its Airbus A380 operations for the 2025/26 Northern Hemisphere winter season. The airline will scale back superjumbo service on the busy Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH) – London Heathrow (LHR) route, while significantly increasing A380 flights to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK).

The adjustments mark a shift in how the Gulf carrier deploys its largest aircraft. London will see reduced A380 presence, but Bangkok travelers will benefit from more daily superjumbo services, highlighting the airline’s evolving strategy in matching demand with capacity.

Qatar Airways Ups Bangkok A380 Flights

London Heathrow (LHR) has long been a hub for Airbus A380 activity, with multiple airlines using the superjumbo on high-demand routes.

For the upcoming winter season, Qatar Airways will reduce its A380 flights between Doha and London from two daily services to just one, starting October 26, 2025.

In contrast, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) will see a major increase. Qatar Airways will boost A380 flights on the Doha–Bangkok corridor from one daily to three daily round-trip flights.

This represents a significant capacity upgrade for Thailand-bound passengers, with half of the six daily flights operated by the A380.

Other Aircraft Supporting Both Routes

While the A380 will have a reduced presence in London, the overall seat capacity on the Doha–London route will rise.

Data from Cirium, as flagged by Simple Flying, shows Qatar Airways has scheduled 288 round-trip flights on the corridor in November 2025, up from 241 in November 2024, reflecting a 17.4% increase in frequency.

Aircraft mix will include:

  • 60 A380 flights
  • 16 Airbus A350-900 flights
  • 71 Airbus A350-1000 flights
  • 419 Boeing 777-300ER flights

On the Bangkok route, three daily A380 flights will be joined by:

  • 1 Boeing 777-300ER daily flight
  • 2 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner daily flights

This balanced deployment reflects Qatar Airways’ strategy of using different aircraft types to maintain flexibility while meeting demand surges.

A380 in Qatar Airways’ Fleet

Qatar Airways currently operates a fleet of 10 Airbus A380s, with eight active and two stored (A7-APA and A7-APB). The fleet averages 10.1 years of age.

The airline’s A380s are configured in a three-class layout:

  • 8 First Class seats
  • 48 Business Class seats
  • 461 Economy Class seats
    Total: 517 seats

The entire lower deck is dedicated to economy class, while the upper deck houses First Class at the front, Business Class in the middle, and a small rear economy section. The aircraft also features an onboard lounge, designed to enhance the premium passenger experience.

Beyond London and Bangkok, Qatar Airways deploys the A380 on other high-demand routes during the winter season. These include daily services from Doha to Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Sydney Kingsford Smith (SYD).

The aircraft’s large capacity allows the airline to maximize efficiency on long-haul routes where demand is strong.

Other Service Update for Winter 2025/26

Qatar Airways (QR) will reduce flight frequencies between Doha (DOH) and Adelaide (ADL) during select periods of the Northern Winter 2025/26 season, reported Aeroroutes.

Instead of daily operations, the airline will run five weekly flights between 26 October and 14 December 2025, 27 January and 8 February 2026, and 16 February through 28 March 2026.

The Doha–Adelaide route will continue to use the Airbus A350-900 aircraft. During late January 2026, service will briefly increase to six weekly flights before returning to five.

Expanded London Heathrow Operations

Alongside adjustments in Australia, Qatar Airways (QR) has confirmed a major service expansion to London Heathrow (LHR) beginning 26 October 2025. Weekly flights on the Doha–Heathrow route will rise from 56 to 66.

This increase allows the airline to offer up to 10 daily flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays; nine daily flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

When combining the London Gatwick (LGW) schedule, Qatar Airways will operate 12 daily services to London on Tuesdays, 11 on Thursdays through Sundays, and 10 on Mondays and Wednesdays for much of the winter season.

British Airways (BA) continues to provide two daily flights on the same Doha–Heathrow route, adding further capacity between the two hubs.

Aircraft deployed on this high-demand corridor include the Airbus A380, A350-900, A350-1000, and Boeing 777-300ER. Flight timings vary across the day, covering early morning, midday, and evening departures, providing travelers with multiple schedule options in both directions.

Doha–Adelaide Winter Schedule

Qatar Airways’ Doha–Adelaide service during the affected periods will operate as follows:

  • QR914: Departs Doha (DOH) at 20:20, arrives Adelaide (ADL) at 17:05+1 – Airbus A350-900 – operates five times weekly except Tuesday and Thursday.
  • QR915: Departs Adelaide (ADL) at 22:00, arrives Doha (DOH) at 04:00+1 – Airbus A350-900 – operates five times weekly except Wednesday and Friday.

The frequency adjustment reflects demand patterns typically observed in the Australian market during the shoulder and post-holiday travel seasons.

Doha–London Winter Schedule

Qatar Airways’ expanded Doha–London Heathrow schedule includes the following key services:

  • QR103/104: Doha (DOH) 01:20 – London Heathrow (LHR) 05:55 | Return 08:25 – 18:05 Doha (DOH) – Equipment varies.
  • QR011/012: Doha (DOH) 01:50 – LHR 06:25 | Return 18:55 – Doha (DOH) 04:35+1 – Airbus A380.
  • QR003/004: Doha (DOH) 07:40 – LHR 12:15 | Return 14:15 – Doha (DOH) 23:55 – Airbus A380.
  • QR001/002 and additional rotations: Operated by a mix of A350s and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, spread across the day for connectivity.

The additional flights position Qatar Airways as one of the strongest carriers on the Middle East–London market, offering a capacity boost during a season of typically high business and leisure demand.
