SEOUL- Korean Air (KE) is introducing a new Premium Class cabin on its retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, with the first flights launching from Seoul Incheon (ICN) in mid-September on short- and mid-haul international routes.

The airline has invested KRW 300 billion to fully retrofit 11 aircraft in the 777-300ER fleet, aligning cabin design and onboard features with its newest aircraft and adding Premium Class between Prestige (business) and Economy.

Korean Air 777 Premium Economy

Premium Class is designed to bridge the gap between Economy and Prestige Class. It offers a 2-4-2 seating configuration with 40 seats, each providing about 50% more personal space than standard Economy seats.

Seat pitch ranges from 39 to 41 inches (roughly 1 meter), and each seat is 19.5 inches wide with a recline of up to 130 degrees. Passengers also benefit from leg and footrests, ergonomic headrests, and privacy-enhancing winged sides.

The seats are complemented by 15.6-inch 4K resolution in-flight entertainment screens—larger than those currently offered in Prestige Class on the same aircraft. Passengers can access the airline’s full entertainment library and enjoy Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the flight.

Onboard service has also been enhanced. Premium Class passengers receive a curated meal experience served on Armani/Casa tableware, featuring an appetizer, main course, and dessert selected from the Prestige Class menu. Beverages—wine, coffee, and tea—match those served in business class.

Ground services are upgraded, too. Premium Class travelers will have access to Morning Calm check-in counters, priority baggage handling, and Sky Priority boarding across all eligible routes.

Fleet Retrofit and Cabin Updates

This Premium Class rollout is part of a broader cabin overhaul across Korean Air’s Boeing 777-300ER fleet.

The airline began the retrofit project in 2018 but faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now back on track, the updated aircraft interiors reflect the design of Korean Air’s most recent deliveries.

The revamped aircraft include:

  • Prestige Suites 2.0 in a 1-2-1 layout with direct aisle access for business class passengers
  • New Economy Class in a 3-4-3 layout with upgraded seating and amenities
  • Wi-Fi availability and upgraded entertainment systems across all cabins

With this upgrade, Korean Air aims to modernize its long-haul experience and introduce Premium Class on more routes over time.

Pricing and Route Plans

Fares for Premium Class will generally be around 110% of standard Economy prices, though actual prices will vary depending on route and travel dates.

Initial deployments will focus on regional routes before expanding to long-haul flights once the full retrofit program is complete.

The goal is clear: give passengers more choice, better comfort, and a consistent onboard experience across Korean Air’s widebody fleet.
