In a statement, the airline emphasized that this direct connectivity allows Abu Dhabi residents to explore Kannur, known for its stunning beaches, historical landmarks, intricate handloom textiles, and vibrant Theyyam art form.

Chandigarh’s Second International Destination

The airline will operate daily flights using Airbus A320 aircraft. The flight timings for the Abu Dhabi-Chandigarh (IXC) route are as follows:

  • 6E1417 departing from Abu Dhabi at 22:15 and arriving in Chandigarh at 03:30 the next day, and
  • 6E1418 departing from Chandigarh at 02:45 and arriving in Abu Dhabi at 05:15.

This marks Chandigarh’s second international connection after Dubai and will be IndiGo’s 7th route to Abu Dhabi.

Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, expressed his satisfaction:

“We are delighted to announce direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Chandigarh. This new route will offer customers more travel options between the UAE and northern India.”

Rakesh Ranjan Sahay, the airport’s CEO, outlined plans for the commencement of flights, confirming, “Bookings for this route have commenced. We will also meet with customs and immigration, as their cooperation is crucial for initiating this flight.”

In addition to enhancing international connectivity, the improved accessibility is expected to attract more tourists from Abu Dhabi and neighboring areas to Chandigarh and Punjab, thereby stimulating the tourism industry in the region.

Furthermore, the airport has expanded its domestic connectivity by adding two new destinations, Dharamshala and Jammu, as part of the summer schedule introduced on April 1. Alliance Air (9I) and IndiGo facilitate these connections, providing passengers with enhanced travel options.

With the summer schedule implemented since March 31, the airport has witnessed a significant increase in flights, rising from 74 in the winter to 94 flights in the summer, covering both arrivals and departures.
