LONDON- An easyJet (U2) flight from Alicante (ALC) to Manchester (MAN) was forced to make an emergency landing at London Gatwick Airport (LGW) on Sunday morning (May 25, 2025) due to a medical situation onboard.
The flight, operating as EZY5521, declared an emergency while flying over the southern UK coast and landed safely at Gatwick around 8:30 a.m., where it was met by emergency medical personnel.

easyJet Flight Emergency Landing at Gatwick
easyJet confirmed the diversion was caused by a passenger requiring urgent medical attention. The crew followed standard emergency procedures, prioritizing the health of the affected individual.
Upon landing at Gatwick (LGW), the passenger was attended to by medical teams, and the aircraft was prepared to resume its journey to Manchester (MAN).
According to a statement from easyJet, the airline emphasized that the safety and well-being of passengers and crew remain its highest priority. Once the medical emergency was resolved on the ground, the airline planned to continue the flight to its original destination.
This is not an isolated incident. In recent weeks, other easyJet (U2) flights have also made emergency landings due to in-flight emergencies:
- On March 25, a flight from Tenerife (TFS) to Liverpool (LPL) diverted to Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport (SCQ) in northern Spain after a 67-year-old passenger became unconscious. Medical assistance was requested onboard, and passengers were later accommodated in local hotels before resuming travel.
- On April 19, an easyJet flight from Gatwick (LGW) to Marrakesh (RAK) diverted to Faro Airport (FAO) after a passenger, reportedly under the influence, caused panic by hallucinating about snakes onboard. The man was removed by police after landing.
These incidents underline the importance of robust onboard protocols and emergency readiness, which have allowed easyJet crews to handle varied and serious situations professionally.

Previous Disturbance
In a separate event, a Belfast (BFS) to Manchester (MAN) flight experienced disruption when a female passenger launched a racist tirade and exhibited aggressive behavior.
She was removed from the plane before departure. Witnesses reported offensive language and abusive comments, making the incident especially distressing for families and children on board.
easyJet has stated a zero-tolerance policy for abusive behavior, and law enforcement was involved in managing the situation. Such occurrences have raised concerns around passenger behavior and the safety of onboard environments.
