Dubai Airport to Ease Security Rules on Liquids and Laptops

dailyblitz.de 3 часы назад

DUBAI- Passengers traveling through Dubai International Airport (DXB) will soon clear security without removing liquids over 100ml or laptops from hand luggage. The update follows successful trials of advanced scanning systems.

Dubai Airports, the world’s busiest hub, is introducing this change in line with global aviation trends. Emirates (EK) and other airlines operating from the airport will benefit from shorter wait times and smoother security checks.

Dubai Airport New Security Rules

New checkpoint scanners supplied by Smiths Detection, a UK-based company, are being tested across Terminals 1, 2, and 3 under Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP).

Reported by Gulf News, Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, confirmed that the equipment will allow passengers to keep both liquids and electronics in their bags during screening.

The system mirrors measures introduced in several European airports. It uses state of the art 3D scanning technology designed to improve accuracy, reduce false alarms, and increase efficiency.

According to Griffiths, these changes are essential, as DXB has seen a 20 percent growth over the past decade without significant new infrastructure.

Passenger Growth

Dubai International Airport (DXB) welcomed 46 million travelers in the first half of 2025, a 2.3 percent year-on-year rise. Between April and June alone, 22.5 million passengers passed through DXB, reflecting a 3.1 percent increase.

Authorities recognize that removing laptops and liquids is one of the most inconvenient steps for passengers.

By streamlining the process, the airport aims to improve customer satisfaction while maintaining strict safety standards.

Hold baggage screening, which inspects checked luggage for explosives and prohibited items, is also being upgraded with new machinery.

Griffiths noted that early trials of the technology have been “very successful,” showing faster processing and reliable results.

He emphasized two priorities: first, ensuring absolute security through improved screening quality, and second, achieving faster and more efficient passenger flow. Both objectives have been met in the trials, raising confidence in a full rollout.

Expected Rollout Timeline

While no fixed date has been announced, Griffiths indicated that successful progress could soon enable these rules, improving experiences for customers, staff, and the airport’s reputation.

Full rollout depends on machine installation and delivery schedules, with trials currently active.

Similar systems operate at other international airports, signaling a worldwide move toward passenger-friendly security.

For Dubai, the aim is a near frictionless airport journey where passengers spend less time in queues and more time enjoying airport services, shops, and lounges.

Broader Aviation Investments

The UAE continues to invest in advanced aviation technology. At Zayed International Airport (AUH) in Abu Dhabi, a seamless biometric check-in system is already in place, allowing passengers to complete security clearance within moments. Dubai Airport’s new security rules will help travellers clear faster in the airport.

These innovations highlight the country’s commitment to enhancing global competitiveness in air travel.
