Delhi Airport Revamped Terminal 2 Ops

Delhi, the busiest airport in India and one of the busiest airports in South Asia, has been handling record passenger volumes, making the operationalization of the upgraded facility a critical step toward efficient capacity management.

From October 26, 2025, selected domestic flights operated by IndiGo and Go First will be shifted to the new facility. This move is expected to ease passenger load on Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.

With IndiGo being the largest domestic carrier and Go First also serving high-traffic routes, the shift to Terminal 2 will balance traffic across the airport more effectively.

Improvements at Terminal 2

The new Terminal 2 has been upgraded with improved check-in counters, additional security lanes, and enhanced baggage handling systems.

The passenger waiting areas have also been modernized with better seating, lighting, and food and beverage options.

These upgrades are intended to provide faster processing and a smoother travel experience for domestic passengers.

Capacity and Traffic Management

Indira Gandhi International Airport handles more than 70 million passengers annually, and congestion has been a pressing issue.

The shift of flights to Terminal 2 will optimize aircraft movements and reduce wait times at security and boarding gates. DIAL has stated that this move is part of a phased plan to accommodate future passenger growth.

Authorities have urged passengers to double-check their flight details before arriving at the airport. With changes to terminal allocations, flyers may need additional time to adjust to the new arrangements.

Bottom Line

The reopening of Terminal 2 is one step in Delhi Airport’s larger modernization project. Expansion works are also planned at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 to increase handling capacity.

These efforts align with the government’s broader aviation infrastructure goals to support India’s growing air travel demand.

Signage and staff support will be available at the airport to guide passengers to the correct terminal and boarding gates.
