Upon boarding, passengers are welcomed by the spacious and inviting cabin of the Boeing 787. The Dreamliner accommodates 294 passengers across three classes: 26 in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy, and 247 in Economy Class.

Furthermore, Business Class travelers can enjoy large seats that convert into lie-flat beds, direct aisle access, ample storage, and raised seat side panels for added privacy.

The Dreamliner enhances travel for all passengers with features like larger overhead compartments, an innovative lighting system that adjusts to passengers’ biorhythms to reduce jet lag, and quieter engines for a more peaceful journey.

The Boeing 787 also features the largest windows in the aviation industry, providing horizon views even for middle-seat passengers. Electronic dimming allows passengers to adjust the light to their preference while enjoying spectacular views.

Further, Austrian’s OE-LPL is a 4.6-year-old aircraft, which was earlier operated by Bamboo Airways (QH). Austrian Airlines has taken 787 on lease from China Aircraft Leasing Company (CALC).

HON Circle Members receive complimentary access to FlyNet Premium on these flights.

Replacing Old Planes with Modern Jets

The year 2024 is pivotal for Austrian Airlines as it introduces the OE-LPL, leading the modernization of its long-haul fleet. Over the next four years, ten Boeing 787-9s will gradually replace older models. This symbolizes growth and enhanced international competitiveness for the airline.

Annette Mann, CEO of Austrian Airlines, emphasizes that this fleet expansion is a significant advancement for Austria’s economy, Vienna’s hub, and the airline’s future prospects.

Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport, in congratulating Austrian Airlines on the successful launch of the Dreamliner stated

Austrian Airlines is the most important airline at Vienna Airport, accounting for nearly half of our passenger volume. The introduction of the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner by our home carrier is a milestone for both the airline and the airport. This expansion of the long-haul fleet allows Austrian Airlines to enhance its business and long-haul flight offerings from Vienna. North America is a key region for Vienna Airport’s long-haul service, and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner provides greater capacity and new flight connections to the USA. This is also a strong signal of growth for Vienna as an aviation hub.”

Before boarding the aircraft, passengers enjoyed a festive gate event at Vienna Airport, hosted by key Austrian Airlines executives, including CEO Annette Mann and COO Francesco Sciortino.

The event featured a photo wall, 787-themed gifts, and a selection of gourmet Austrian cuisine. This sets the stage for an elevated travel experience with the new “Servus in the air.”
