SEATTLE- A federal court has handed down a sentence to Aliyah Robyn Stalder for assaulting a flight attendant during an Alaska Airlines (AS) flight in 2023.

The 24-year-old woman received three years of probation after attempting to open cabin doors and biting a crew member.

Alaska Airlines Passenger Charged

The incident occurred on a flight from Seattle to Phoenix when Stalder attempted to breach the aircraft’s cabin doors. Flight attendants intervened to restrain her, resulting in Stalder biting one crew member’s hand.

The injured flight attendant required immediate medical attention for a puncture wound and tissue swelling, necessitating antibiotic treatment and a tetanus vaccination.

Stalder entered a guilty plea in November to charges of assault by striking, beating, or wounding on an aircraft. The court’s ruling imposes significant restrictions on her future travel, requiring explicit approval for any commercial flights.

Additionally, the sentence mandates financial penalties, including a $5,000 fine and $8,000 in restitution payments.

Similar Emergency Door Incident

An Alaska Airlines passenger initiated an emergency exit through the aircraft’s wing door following Flight AS323’s arrival at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on December 23, 2024. The incident unfolded at Gate N9 after the flight completed its journey from Milwaukee.

Port of Seattle emergency response teams mobilized at 5:02 PM when the passenger accessed the wing during standard deplaning procedures. Fire personnel and crisis intervention specialists guided the individual from the wing to the terminal ramp. Medical professionals subsequently transported the passenger to a hospital for evaluation.

The Boeing 737-900 aircraft, registered as N282AK and in service for 7.1 years, maintained its structural integrity throughout the incident. No injuries occurred during the unauthorized exit, and airport operations continued without interruption.

Alaska Airlines has launched an investigation into the incident, collaborating with their crew and airport officials to understand the circumstances. The airline commended their staff’s swift response while extending apologies to passengers affected by the disruption.

The Port of Seattle confirmed the incident’s successful resolution with minimal impact on broader airport operations, validating eyewitness accounts of the emergency response at Gate N9. The airport’s standard security and safety protocols effectively managed the situation, ensuring the safety of all individuals involved.
