MONTREAL- Air Canada (AC) has unveiled its most expansive winter schedule to Latin America to date, featuring 16% more capacity than the previous year. The carrier will add four new destinations—Rio de Janeiro (GIG), Cartagena (CTG), Guatemala City (GUA), and Guadalajara (GDL)—alongside 13 new routes across South and Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico.

With more than 55 daily flights and over 80,000 weekly seats, Air Canada (AC) aims to offer the broadest Latin American network among Canadian airlines this winter. Air Canada New Destinations to Latin America

Air Canada’s 2025–26 winter schedule reflects a strategic move to bolster connectivity between Canada and Latin America, enhancing options for leisure, business, and cargo services.

Among the headline additions is a new Toronto (YYZ)–Rio de Janeiro (GIG) route, operating three times weekly between December 4, 2025, and March 28, 2026. This complements existing South American coverage and introduces a vital connection to one of Brazil’s most vibrant coastal cities.

Further southbound expansions include Montreal (YUL)–Santiago (SCL), launching December 16, 2025, with three weekly departures, and new non-stop service from Toronto (YYZ) and Montreal (YUL) to Cartagena (CTG), operating seasonally until April 2026.

The increased South American presence underscores Air Canada’s goal to attract both Canadian travelers and global passengers transiting via Canadian hubs.

Central America and the Caribbean Get a Boost

Air Canada’s new routes also highlight a major push into Central America and the Caribbean, tapping into high-demand vacation and diaspora markets.

Montreal (YUL) will link with Guatemala City (GUA) twice weekly starting October 2, 2025, while Quebec City (YQB) will connect to Fort-de-France (FDF) every Sunday beginning December 7.

From Toronto (YYZ), new Saturday flights will serve Pointe-à-Pitre (PTP), and Guadalajara (GDL) will see three weekly flights starting November 4, 2025. This route marks Air Canada’s first non-stop service to Guadalajara, Mexico’s tech and cultural hub.

Enhanced Sun Destinations

Air Canada is leveraging regional airports to expand winter sun options. Ottawa (YOW) will gain new non-stop service to Nassau (NAS) and Montego Bay (MBJ), operating once weekly from December 2025 through April 2026.

Halifax (YHZ) adds similar service to Nassau (NAS) on Fridays and to Montego Bay (MBJ) on Thursdays, significantly enhancing Atlantic Canada’s access to Caribbean destinations. Meanwhile, Vancouver (YVR) secures a new Sunday flight to Huatulco (HUX), extending the airline’s reach along Mexico’s Pacific coast.

Increased Frequency on Popular Routes

To meet rising demand, Air Canada will boost frequency on multiple high-traffic routes during peak winter periods. Notable increases include:

  • Toronto (YYZ) to Los Cabos (SJD) – up to daily
  • Toronto (YYZ) to Nassau (NAS) – up to 12 flights weekly
  • Montreal (YUL) to Punta Cana (PUJ) – up to three daily flights
  • Vancouver (YVR) to Puerto Vallarta (PVR) – now operating daily

These expansions cater to leisure travelers seeking sunny getaways and capitalize on strong demand from Canada’s major travel markets.

Strategic Growth

This schedule expansion supports Air Canada’s broader New Frontiers strategy, which aims to strengthen its global footprint and boost sixth-freedom traffic through Canadian hubs. With increased access to Latin America, the airline is positioning itself as a top choice for travelers connecting between Europe, North America, and Latin America.

Cargo potential is another key component, with Latin America representing a growing logistics corridor. The airline expects the added belly space to support economic and trade activity between Canada and key Latin markets.
